Since opening in 2018, we have built a reputation for high standards, a calm and welcoming atmosphere, and genuine care for every dog that walks through our doors. What began as a small home grooming room has grown into multiple busy salons – but our approach remains the same: quality grooming, delivered with kindness and patience.
Our Story
The Hound Hut was founded by Drew Pritchard, a lifelong dog lover with years of experience working in both veterinary and professional grooming environments.
While living in Wirksworth, Drew set out to create a luxury dog grooming space that focused on doing things properly — never rushed, never overcrowded, and always centred around the dog’s comfort. As demand grew, the business moved to larger premises at 14A Market Place in 2021, allowing the team to expand and welcome even more local dogs.
Opening in Allestree in 2024 marked an exciting next chapter, bringing The Hound Hut closer to Derby clients. Expanding into Mickleover followed naturally as the business continued to grow and more dog owners discovered us through word of mouth and recommendations.
From the beginning, the goal has always been the same: to create salons where dogs are treated with respect, owners feel confident leaving them in our care, and grooming is carried out to a consistently high standard.
Our Team and Standards
Today, The Hound Hut is supported by a skilled and friendly team of groomers who share the same passion for dog welfare and professional excellence.
We are fully qualified to City & Guilds standards, professionally trained, fully insured, registered with BIGA, and certified in Canine First Aid. Ongoing training and development are important to us, ensuring we continue to refine our skills and stay up to date with modern grooming practices.
We understand that no two dogs are the same. Some are confident and outgoing, others are nervous or visiting a groomer for the first time. Every dog is treated as an individual, with patience, kindness and a calm approach.
