Dog Grooming FAQs

Clear answers to common grooming questions, from puppy grooms to nail trims and teeth cleaning.

How often should I groom my dog?

Most breeds do best every 6–8 weeks. Double-coats often alternate a deshed with a full groom. We’ll advise based on coat, lifestyle and your goals.

Do short-coated dogs need grooming?

Yes. A Bath & Blast/deshed removes dead hair, supports skin and keeps the home cleaner. Nails still need regular trims.

How often should nails be trimmed?

Typically every 4–6 weeks, but depends on where and how often you walk your dog. If you hear clicking on hard floors, they’re due.

What’s included in a puppy groom?

A gentle bath, low-air dry, brush-out, nail trim and hygiene/face tidy if suitable, plus owner coaching on home care.

How much is a full groom?

It depends on breed, coat and condition. We’ll quote upfront and never add extras without asking.

Can I add teeth cleaning to a groom?

Yes — ultrasonic teeth cleaning can be added to any appointment or booked alone.

How often should I clean my dog’s teeth?

An initial course followed by 4–8 week maintenance works well for most dogs, alongside daily home brushing.

Do you offer teeth cleaning on its own?

Absolutely. Standalone sessions at both salons.

What happens if my dog is matted?

Welfare first. We’ll de-mat where humane; if it’s painful, we may recommend a shorter clip to reset the coat comfortably.

What products do you use?

Natural, coat-specific shampoos and conditioners. We choose what suits your dog’s skin and coat.

My dog has sensitive skin — can you help?

Yes. We’ll patch-test gentle formulas, avoid fragrances and adjust drying/brush techniques.

My dog is nervous — can you accommodate this?

Yes. One-to-one appointments, quiet times, and split sessions on request. We go at the dog’s pace.

Is there parking?

Yes — Wirksworth: on-street/market parking nearby. Allestree (Park Farm): centre car park.

Do I stay or leave my dog?

Most dogs settle faster without owners present.

When should puppies start grooming?

From 12 weeks (post-vaccinations) for intros. Early, positive experiences make life easier for everyone.
