What happens at bath time? Meet our hydrobath

Dog bathing area at The Hound Hut salon

A lovely haircut is one thing. A dog who feels clean and comfortable underneath all that fluff matters just as much to us. That is where bath time comes in.

You might have seen us mention our hydrobath and wondered what it actually does. The name sounds a little technical. The idea is much simpler: help us wash through the coat properly, before all the drying, brushing and finishing.

So, what is a hydrobath?

It is a dog bath with a pump that moves water and shampoo through a shower head. The circulating wash helps work the shampoo through the coat, rather than just wetting the top. The wash solution is then drained and the coat rinsed with clean water.

It is a grooming bath, not swimming or hydrotherapy. Different systems have different controls, but washing through the coat and rinsing thoroughly are the important parts.

The bit before the lovely finish

We know the trim is often what you notice first at collection. Bathing helps prepare the coat for everything that comes afterwards. Shampoo needs to reach the areas being cleaned, and it needs to be rinsed back out again.

Drying, brushing and trimming are separate parts of the appointment. You do not need to know the names of all the equipment to book the right visit. Just tell us what you would like help with, whether that is a full groom or a bath and brush.

A little chat before bath time

If your dog is unsure about water or handling, please tell us. You know them best, and we want to hear about the things that worry them as well as the things they enjoy.

The same goes for previous reactions to products or advice from your vet. Share that with us before the groom so we can discuss it together. And if you have found tight knots, show us. A bath will not sort out matting on its own, so let us look at the coat first.

Muddy paws welcome

You do not need to wait for an overgrown fringe to arrange a visit. If your dog needs a wash and some coat care between haircuts, have a look at our grooming services or book online for Mickleover, Allestree or Wirksworth.

Not sure which appointment to pick? Leave us a note about your dog. We would rather help you choose than have you puzzling over the booking options.
